TTC wins contract to help keep fleet and leisure drivers safe in Cumbria
In person and online driver rehabilitation courses now include how to stay safe on smart motorways.
Driver and fleet risk management expert, TTC, has been awarded a five-year contract to help increase safety compliance on the roads of Cumbria. The company will work with Cumbria Police to ensure that drivers can access a suite of driver offender rehabilitation courses, either in person or online.
TTC courses offered to motorists through the contract include ‘Speed Awareness’, ‘Motorway Awareness’, ‘Safe and Considerate Driving’, ‘What’s Driving Us’ and ‘Rider Risk Awareness’ – a course designed specifically for motorcyclists.
Glen continued: “The recent introduction of the ‘Motorway Awareness’ course helps drivers understand smart motorway variable mandatory speed limits and the legal consequences of not complying with them. Whilst we don’t have any smart motorways in Cumbria, there are around 400 miles of smart motorways across the country, with a considerable number of our drivers using them daily. It’s imperative that those who are caught driving unlawfully on these motorways, albeit unintentionally, understand the impact they could have on the safety of others.”
Delivering courses to more than 600,000 motorists across the UK each year, TTC is the UK’s largest provider of UK Road Offender Education (UKROEd) accredited courses. Nationwide it has in excess of 600 trainers with in-person classes held at five venues across Cumbria, conducted by local people with local knowledge. All but one of these venues are community based, be that a sports venue or village hall, enabling TTC and Cumbria Police to support communities and working with local people. In addition, the pandemic saw the successful introduction of online TTC courses and these continue today, accommodating a large number of participants and enabling diversity of access.
